This Mylostone is a precursor to walking: sitting up. My son Mylo has been sitting up quite well and pretty much unsupported since he was almost 6 months old. That’s not to say he doesn’t lose his balance or topple over from time to time, because he does. But the little guy can sit up, thrust his head from side to side and bang toys together in the air with the best of em.
While I am in awe of my son’s rapid development and just how strong he is, I only wish he would stay sitting like he is in the picture above for more than five minutes at a time. Usually what happens is he gets bored, or frustrated and he throws himself down on the ground in protest (hitting his head on the way) and proceeds to crawl all over the apartment getting into things he should NOT be getting into. Like let’s see, the dog’s water bowl. The cat’s food bowl. The power cords (we have to child proof those, I know), the shoes on the shoe rack, the front tire to his stroller and the list goes on.
My mother-in-law said to me today, “wait until he starts walking.” Really? Here I am thinking that walking could/should make our lives easier. NOT HARDER! We. Are. So. Screwed.
Way to go, Mylo! He is too adorable. If you find a way to encourage the sitting still thing, do share!!
Glad you mentioned the dog bowl…I need to figure out what to do about this myself. The cats’ food and water are already up high (Riddick doesn’t understand the concept of dog food v. cat food; hey, it’s all food, right?), but the dog bowls will need to be moved.
Riddick used to get into everything – and he still does sometimes if he thinks we’re not looking. So that has helped my babyproofing efforts a lot. Thanks to him the cat litter is now safely ensconced in a beautiful chest (with a side entry hole big enough for a cat, but too small for a certain Scottie or a baby).
I too am hoping that walking will turn out to uncomplicate life a bit…I guess we’ll find out soon!
Jennifer… I was at my wits end and then I inadvertently figured it out: SESAME STREET. My mom was a smart cookie for DVR’ing it for me. Who would have thought at almost seven months old he would be mesmerized by a bunch of puppets. Make that digitally animated puppets. The show’s come a long way from our day!
I just came across this quote by Plato that I think you’ll appreciate. “Of all animals, the boy is the most unmanageable.” ~Ree
great blog. very interesting. i’m visiting from mbc. i’m following you now, come follow me.
What a cutie Mylo is! He looks so proud of his accomplishments! And you know, a little dog water (and food??) never hurt anyone! LoL!

That is a great quote! And from my experience so far…true as well.
I wish mine would sit still for Sesame Street! That was always one of my favorite shows when I was young. We have lots of Sesame Street books and stuffed animals, so maybe one day it will interest them more.

My mom tells me I once ate a dog biscuit when she wasn’t looking. I had totally forgotten that! Guess it didn’t hurt me after all.
