Mylostone – Army Crawl

Another major Mylostone to share. The boy is on the move… last week my son Mylo did the army crawl for the first time – using his upper-body while in an army push-up to shimmy himself across the floor. He is going to have that tushy of his up in the air in no time! Or, maybe he’ll skip crawling and go directly from scooting into walking. Time will tell…

On the move...

Mylostone – Solids

An important Mylostone to write about today! My son Mylo had his first taste of solids just before his 5 month birthday. We intended to start with rice cereal but one morning while he was sitting in his Inglesina booster seat, (another great find for apartment dwellers by the way), watching us eat breakfast, he began to foam at the mouth.

So I took a banana out of the bowl, cut off a small piece and proceeded to mash it up. Somehow, I don’t know how, he knew it was for him. He stared at the bowl intently and held on to the arms of the seat for dear life, as if the anticipation alone would knock him out of it! The only other living thing I’ve seen react to food preparation that way is our dog.

Yummy yummy to my tummy!

I know it’s not recommended to start with the sweet stuff, but it seemed fitting, as I grew up in Nigeria on mashed banana myself. We do a tiny chunk of banana in the morning now and tiny bit of rice cereal in the evening. And he absolutely digs it!

Mylostone – Subway

As a New Yorker this is a necessary Mylostone. My son Mylo rode the subway and fell asleep like his dad always does, for the first time when he was almost 5 months old.

We hit up Crate & Barrel and Buybuy Baby and made an unannounced visit to our midwife’s office in Chelsea. Mylo blew raspberries for her the entire time and she seemed very pleased to see the little guy!

Mylostone – Santa’s Lap

A festive Mylostone to share. When my son Mylo was about 4 1/2 months old we took him to visit Santa at the Walt Whitman Mall and oh what fun that was!

After I put him in Santa’s lap he looked at me with a bit of uncertainty. But soon after we began to call his name out, an onslaught of smiles followed. He seemed delighted, which probably won’t happen as he gets older and finds the big guy kind of scary!

Mylostone – Tear Duct Opens

Not sure if this is considered a Mylostone per se, but the tear duct in my son Mylo’s right eye is no longer clogged. His doctor said it could last up to 10 months or a year, but thank goodness it didn’t.

The tear duct in his left eye cleared up at about 2 months but his right eye took much monger. So you could just imagine how thrilled I am now to see BOTH of my son’s gorgeous blue eyes without any gunk in it. This is best Christmas present ever!

Mylostone – Blowing Raspberries

A fun Mylostone to share today! At 3 months and 1 week old, my son Mylo began making vibrating sounds with his lips while pushing out saliva at the same time. I was recently told that this is called “blowing raspberries.” Let me tell ya, it’s real awesome when you’re on the receiving end of all the saliva that comes out!

Blowing crazy raspberries for Beverly, our midwife.

Mylostone – Sucking Fingers

Not sure which one to consider the Mylostone here. The fact that my son Mylo can’t STAND pacifiers or the fact that he absolutely ADORES his fingers?

In any case, because of his adversity to the pacifier, Mylo had been looking to suck on his fingers since he was just a couple of weeks old. He would nosh on the side of his hand like it was a corn on the cob! At about 9 weeks old he finally found his fingers, in particular the pointer and the middle. And he particularly likes to suck on fingers from both hands at the same time!

Chompin' at the bit, literally.
