New Year’s Resolutions

New Year’s resolutions… I don’t normally set them (especially publicly) but being that I am a new mom who is responsible for another life, it feels important this year. So, in no particular order, here goes…

  • Make at least one meal a week for my family
  • Take Mylo running with our Indie jogger
  • Get in the habit of using Google calendar
  • Don’t be so hard on a certain-someone
  • Build a blogging community
  • Help someone in need
  • Save a life

What are your New Year’s resolutions?

Mylostone – Subway

As a New Yorker this is a necessary Mylostone. My son Mylo rode the subway and fell asleep like his dad always does, for the first time when he was almost 5 months old.

We hit up Crate & Barrel and Buybuy Baby and made an unannounced visit to our midwife’s office in Chelsea. Mylo blew raspberries for her the entire time and she seemed very pleased to see the little guy!

Mylostone – Santa’s Lap

A festive Mylostone to share. When my son Mylo was about 4 1/2 months old we took him to visit Santa at the Walt Whitman Mall and oh what fun that was!

After I put him in Santa’s lap he looked at me with a bit of uncertainty. But soon after we began to call his name out, an onslaught of smiles followed. He seemed delighted, which probably won’t happen as he gets older and finds the big guy kind of scary!

Mylostone – Tear Duct Opens

Not sure if this is considered a Mylostone per se, but the tear duct in my son Mylo’s right eye is no longer clogged. His doctor said it could last up to 10 months or a year, but thank goodness it didn’t.

The tear duct in his left eye cleared up at about 2 months but his right eye took much monger. So you could just imagine how thrilled I am now to see BOTH of my son’s gorgeous blue eyes without any gunk in it. This is best Christmas present ever!

Baby Holiday Party

Some of my son Mylo’s best buds came over for a holiday party on Saturday night and it was a blast. The six babies are all from Brooklyn and were all born in less than a month of one another. (Unfortunately, Leo, the oldest of the pack, was sleeping while this pic was taken.)

“It Goes By So Fast”

When I was pregnant I got used to being asked the same few questions: “How are you feeling. Do you know the sex. Have you picked out names?” And my answers pretty much didn’t waver: “Feeling great. Want to be surprised. We’re not sharing.”

And now that my son Mylo is here, from literally day one the most popular comment I get is, “Enjoy it because it goes by real fast.” I know it’s true, but I wonder if it’s necessary to say to someone who is reveling in the wonderdoms of motherhood for the very first time? I don’t think so. So much so that I have made a solemn vow NOT to say this to anyone who has children after me.

But Mylo IS growing up fast. It seemed like only yesterday when he could make out the distance between my eyes and my breast and now he tracks my movements from across the room, and turns his head in my direction when he hears my voice.

Just recently we tried him out in the Jumperoo and he absolutely loved it. He jumps along to the music, he jumps each time he whacks a toy and adds even more oomph to his step when he has an audience.

Blowing raspberries and making music.

He cocks his head backward to see the farm animal decals when he’s getting his diaper changed on the changing table. They’re decals for crying out loud! They’re not 3D, but plastic sticky things on a white wall. I hate being told to “enjoy it now because they grow up fast.” With each new “Mylostone” and each new development, I am reminded daily that my baby is indeed growing up fast.
